I've been making some little hand-drawn animations and continuing to work on my canvases whilst coming up with new ideas for tutorials etc.
In this tutorial we will be making these lovely colourful houses with watercolour pencils and watercolour paper, to create a joyful response to being at home and a member of a street community.
They show that our homes can be expressions of ourselves and come in all shapes and sizes, colours and ages.
I made all the windows yellow to reflect the warm light that is emitted from our homes and invites us to spend happy times within them

New Painting* - Mask of Iyoba on gold background - Acrylic on canvas
March 2020
Hello! I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during these difficult times, I know the impact of the Covid-19 virus is affecting people in severe ways right now, and I think we could all do with a virtual group hug to help lessen the difficulties. So here (((( blog readers )))) a virtual hug for you all. :)
I have been continuing my journey with painting on canvas by producing this artwork.
It features an ivory mask on a gold background that I have seen on my visits to the British Museum for over a decade.
It originates from the Kingdom of Benin and is called "The Mask Of Iyoba'
I've always wondered what other great works the artist created...

New painting* - 'Tuareg' Acrylic on Canvas
February 2020
Hello and welcome back to my blog! I hope you have been well?
I have been enjoying painting on fairly large canvases throughout February and recently finished this image of a Tuareg man.
This painting was a journey for me, an exploration of light, blue, fabric, rhythmic form, the desert, and the ancient yet contemporary essences of Africa.
The Tuareg are ancient traders across the Sahara desert, known for their blue indigo dyed robes and nomadic lifestyle.

New Painting 'Sankofa' - Acrylic on Canvas
February 2020
Heloooo and welcome to my new look blog! I hope you like the new layout etc, I will be adding new sections and features over the coming weeks so please watch this space.
As you know I have recently migrated to working on canvas and wow! I had no idea how good it would feel, for some reason working on a fairly large canvas gives you more freedom of expression and allows you to explore new creative areas.
The painting above consists of two Adinkra symbols known as Sankofa which means 'Learn from your mistakes' or 'It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten'
Adinkra symbols originate from the Ashanti Kingdom of West Africa where they are used to represent proverbs or concepts, usually printed on cloth.

How To Start Arting With Watercolor Pencils! – Tutorial
January 2020
Hello Again! I hope you are well and enjoying the start of 2020!! Whooo
Today I would like to share with you a new tutorial video specially for those of you who want to start arting for the first time.
I started my art journey in 2012 when I bought a tin of watercolor pencils and a pad of paper, my creative outlets at that time were video, creating visuals for concerts and events as well as producing short videos for TV companies etc.
I wanted to expand my creative vocabulary and learn to paint and draw, watercolor pencils seemed the easiest way to start and I want to show how you too can start a colourful art journey with a handful of pencils and some paper.
Today we will be painting my Kudu antelope design which I have linked below the video.
Please feel free to save this and print it for colouring with watercolor pencils.
In the video I will show you how to get started.
If you would like to share your creations please feel free to join the facebook group here
https://www.facebook.com/groups/396397334349228/
and upload your first paintings! It’s soooo exciting!

New Painting!* – “Slickness” Acrylic on canvas
December 2019
Hello everyone! I hope you are well and had a great xmas day!!
I am still totally stuffed on turkey, stuffing, Brussels sprouts and homemade apple and blackberry pie with cream.. yum!
Hopefully I will go on some nice walks at the weekend to burn it all off, maybe along the River Thames path from Greenwich to London Bridge, its such a nice walk with plenty to look at and loads of cafes etc en route!
I have been working on this ‘Slickness’ painting on and off for several months now. It is by far the largest canvas I have ever attempted to paint and without an easel too!!
The painting is of Slick Woods holding the sneaker she designed for a high street brand.
I was impressed by her design skills, entrepreneurial spirit and creativity, so decided to paint her!!
Now that she is finished I have a bit more space in my ‘Art Palace’ to start a new large canvas :)

Lazy Sunday - Self Portrait
December 2019
I've been enjoying a lazy Sunday lie in whilst deciding whether or not I should visit Greenwich Market in London, it's cold out there!
I grew up in Greenwich and always enjoyed visiting the arts, crafts and antiques market on a Sunday, it became a ritual amongst my friends to meet there for Sunday lunch and take a walk in the park, happy days!
I still have some pieces of art and antiques that I collected at that time!
Last night I continued working on my self portrait, it's almost finished now..

Gift Boxes!
October 2019
Hello! I hope you are all enjoying your Saturday and welcoming those cosy autumnal days? It can be the best time of the year, a time of change..
Today I would like to share with you some of my paper designs that are in fact gift boxes! I began creating these when I got my Silhouette Cameo paper cutter which I love dearly.
It inspired me to design paper cutting templates and fuelled a desire to start collecting paper.. I now have shelves and boxes full of exquisite patterned paper and high quality crafting papers.
I create the templates in Adobe Illustrator and the Silhouette Studio Designer software, these are then exported as vector SVG files which can be downloaded by other paper crafters who cut them on their personal machines.
They can be filled with goodies and used as display pieces, I hope you enjoy them :)

New horse sketch..
October 2019
Helloooo! Happy Saturday!
I've literally just finished sketching this horses head in charcoal, it's the first time I used charcoal and it's so lush.
The background was made from layers of gold, yellow and brown paint.
I need to make another of these in black paint as that was the original idea, but will keep this one too.
The horse is sketched from one of the Elgin Marbles at the British Museum.

New Painting * - Be The Queen of You
September 2019
Hello everyone! I hope you are well? I am doing good and looking forward to creating lots of new juicy arts and crafts for you!
Today I would like to show you my latest 'Curvy Girl' arts and quotes painting.
She is an expression of how it is good to take possession of our self and how the most important real estate we can invest in is ourselves.
'Be the Queen of you' means taking full responsibility for our lives and being held accountable to ourselves.

I painted her with what some might say are 'thicc' thighs as an expression and statement of body positivity and acceptance.
I can imagine that growing up many women with large thighs may have been called 'thunder thighs' or 'Chaka Khan thighs' but today we can all celebrate the gift of the large thighs that we have been given, just because... :)

New Painting * Love in a time of Ebola - Acrylic on Canvas
July 2019
Hello!!! Long time! I hope everyone is well?
Things have been a bit quiet here but lots has been happening behind the scenes most of which have been documented on my instagram here
https://www.instagram.com/joanneseale
But I will try to start a new weekly news roundup for my blog and website. Watch this space!!
So this new painting sort of evolved from an abstract art exercise that developed into a painting about current affairs.
It is called 'Love in a time of Ebola' and features acrylic on canvas.. Yes I am now working regularly on canvas!!
The painting sort of just appeared but it started with the eyes.
I don't know where the Ebola reference came from but it was probably something that I had been reading and thinking about.
The 2 figures sort of look like either space travellers or androids and that meant something to me too.
But art is really about what you see in an image.
This painting is about affection, needs, love, distance, restriction, health, humanity etc etc.

New Quotes Lady* You Are Enough - Acrylic Ink and Paint on Paper
June 2019
Hello everyone! I hope you are well?
Yesterday I finished another quotes lady!! Whoo! In this painting I wanted to express how often we can look outside ourselves for validation and assurance that everything is ok.
But I think it is true to say that resting in ones self and being true to yourself can offer the best sense of wholeness and security possible.
It can take a lot of work to get to that stage, a lot of people refer to this as 'The Work' but I think it is a journey we all need to go on for a more fulfilling life.

New Painting * Elephant Hawk Moth - Acrylic on Canvas
June 2019
I love painting moths! It has been a while since I've made a nature painting so I decided to paint a Elephant Hawk-Moth!
The colours are delicious, like strawberry and lemon sorbet, it's form is so sublime and aerodynamic that I decided to accentuate the lines to create an almost arrow-like shape.
It makes me wonder how many millions of years it took for nature to create something of such perfection. Can you imagine if you or I were given that task??
This will be the first canvas that I am putting up for sale, I am learning to let go of my paintings and offer them to new homes :)
Please find the details of the sale here

New Painting - The Cracks - Acrylic on paper
June 2019
Hello everyone! I hope you are well.
I've been managing to work on quite a few new paintings and paper projects recently, its so nice to be in the flow of creating again, it took quite a lot of effort to get back on track but hopefully it will be a smooth and interesting ride from here on in.
This painting was inspired by a Life Book 2018 lesson, I love the texture in the painting the curved forms and earth tones. I can't say i've ever made a painting like this before but would like to make more!

New Painting - Boy Riding a Giraffe
Hello! I recently finished another painting! I tried to paint this boy
on a giraffe in an illustrative style more suited to a children’s book.
It took a lot longer than I thought but I am very happy with the result and hope to make more in the future.

Tree of Life
I made this painting to try to show how the needs of a tree can also be applied to the needs of a person, it was inspired by a Life Book 2017 lesson by Effy Wild but looks nothing like the actual lesson..

Paper Wing Wall Art
I decided to make a paper cut dimensional wing for my wall. I drew the feathers by hand, scanned them and cut them on my silhouette cameo, then attached them to a wing base.
I have created an SVG download of the design here, so you can have ago at making one too I also created a video tutorial of the whole process from drawing the feathers to making a pair of wings below.
